Portfolio Page (P1)

Task
Find a display book for paper copies of your portfolio pages. Create a word document for your portfolio. Create a title Page. Eg: Constructing a Bedside Table. Put your name on the title page.

Design, Drawing and Planning
Decide the dimensions of your cupboard. How tall is it going to be? How wide? How many pieces will you need to cut it into? There is no other wood available. Try to maximise the use of your piece of board. The assessment requires you to answer such questions as ‘Why did you design it to be X cms tall?’ You will need to think about your answers at this stage of the design process.
‘Because I only had one piece of board and this was the maximum height I could make it.’ Will not be a suitable answer.
You need to think about the design in relation to what it will be used for, eg: ‘It is a bedside table for my sister and this height is how far her arm extends when she switches off her alarm clock.’ and where it is intended to fit, eg: ‘Under the window ledge in my sister’s bedroom’, etc.
The design process, drawings, explanations and photographs, in the portfolio, are worth approximately 40% of the total marks.

Your portfolio may take the form of:

A reference tutorial which may be used to explain how a cabinet can be made

or

A summary of the whole process from start to finish.

Photograph every part of the process. Photograph the tools used, the workers, the helpers, the cutting. Describe your work in a step by step way in detail. Read the project brief and answer the question as accurately as possible. The key to success in any assessment is to adhere strictly to the question.
